Welcome to the Tribe’s new Events page! We will use this space for updates on the Tribe’s upcoming appearances and review past activities. With that in mind, let’s talk 2018.
The Tribe’s performance at the Muckenthaler Center’s annual gala last Saturday wrapped up a busy 2018 season, at least until we get the next unexpected gig. “You guys were a lot better than I expected”, was the brief review provided by one of the Muck’s organizers as I was carrying our drums back to the car.
This year saw the debut of the Tribe’s new Victorian World’s Fair (aka Steampunk) look and our new dance choreography, “Argent.” We performed at two Steampunk events in San Diego and Santa Ana, Laguna Beach’s Sawdust Festival, two evenings at the OC Bellydance Showcase in Yorba Linda and the Muckenthaler Gala in Fullerton.
Our appearance at the Muck was quite like nobody expected. We basically performed an hour-plus long show as donors milled through the reception area dressed up to look like a “Western reinterpretation of 1930s Cairo.” Those who stopped to watch (or were part of the living scenery) were treated to all of our current dances as well as exciting solos. In a sign of our modern times, many patrons took selfies with themselves and with the dancers during the performances.
This may very well be the Tribe’s last performance for this year, give or take another restaurant gig around the holidays. Of course, it’s possible that the patrons at the Muck were impressed with our appearance that they might want Gypsies for their own entertainment. We have resurrected this web site for that purpose–to introduce the Tribe to a wider audience and as a contact portal for interest in acquiring the Tribe for new events and for joining our dysfunctional extended family.
